Hello everyone! My name is Joe Tavares, and I am Project Director at the Center for Student Opportunity, a nonprofit organization that gives college guidance and admissions assistance to first-generation, low-income students across the country. My main project at CSO is the College Access & Opportunity Guide, a guidebook for students who will be first in their family to attend college.

On a personal note, I am passionate about making college a reality for students who want to break the cycle of poverty in their family. For the past three years, I have been a mentor with CollegeBound, a community-based organization where I help students in Washington, D.C. graduate from high school and succeed on their college journey.

Other things you should know about me: I’m from Rhode Island; I went to college at St. Bonaventure University (located in upstate New York); I graduated with a bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Spanish; and I studied abroad in England and Argentina.
